The Application Process

The United Nations Graduate Certificate Program is designed for diplomats, UN staff and graduate students with an interest in international organizations. Applicants must have an undergraduate degree from a university in the United States or its equivalent from a university abroad.
To earn the Graduate Certificate in United Nations Studies, students complete eight courses (twenty-four graduate credits). These credits are included in the thirty-six-credit requirement for the Master of Science in Social Science or the Master of Arts in Political Science and the forty-eight-credit requirement for the Master of Public Administration. In all cases, students retain their concentration in international organizations. Students who complete the program receive the Certificate and a master’s degree.

The admission procedure requires, in addition to the completed application form, official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions attended, and two letters of recommendation. The letters should be from professors who have knowledge of your academic work, but may be from employers or other professionals.

The application may be submitted on line at: https://apply.liu.edu/new/UserLogin.aspx, or you may download the application form at: http://www.brooklyn.liu.edu/bbut02/apply/admissions/Forms/GraduateApplication.pdf. This downloaded version should be sent directly to the Admissions Office by fax: (718) 707-2399. All other documents should be mailed to: Graduate Admissions, Long Island University, Brooklyn, New York 11201.

International students also should refer to the Office of International Students link:  http://www.brooklyn.liu.edu/bbut02/apply/admissions/Graduate/international.html.

Most UN Program classes are held in mid-Manhattan at 225 East 43rd Street and are scheduled during evening hours, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuition is $930 per credit.
