Dr. Magai is the founding director of the Center for Studies of Ethnicity and Human Development, a research facility devoted to the study of ethnic and cultural issues in development. The Center serves as the setting for Dr. Magai’s research, and provides training opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral level psychologists. Dr. Magai also serves as the Dean of Research for the Long Island University Brooklyn Campus.

Research Interests: Dr. Magai’s research centers on issues of emotional development and emotional expression. Her interests include continuity and change in personality development over the lifespan, attachment theory, dynamic systems modeling of personality, the role of culture and other individual difference variables in development, and emotions in the psychotherapy process.
