ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS


Arnold Consultancy & Technology, LLC and Novartis Endowed Scholarship
Established through the efforts of Dr. Renée Goldberg Arnold, a member of the College’s Council of Overseers, a scholarship is awarded to a student in years P-3 through P-6 who demonstrates academic excellence and overcomes significant hardship.

Edmund Axelroad `50 Endowed Scholarship
Established through a bequest from the Estate of Edmund I. Axelroad `50, several scholarships will be awarded to students in years P-3 through P-6 for the benefit of American born students on the basis of financial need.

Leon Axen Endowed Scholarship
Established by Leon Axen, a scholarship is awarded to a student in the professional program on the basis of financial need and academic promise.

Boca Pharmacy Group Endowed Scholarship
Established by Sandra and Jacob `97 Jamron, a scholarship is awarded to a student in the professional program on the basis of financial need and academic promise.

Cardinal Health Pharmacy Endowed Scholarship
Established by Cardinal Health, a scholarship is awarded to a P-5 or P-6 student who has a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher and is pursuing a career in independent, nuclear, hospital or community pharmacy. Preference will be given to female and minority students who hold leadership positions at the College and exhibit entrepreneurial spirit. Preference will also be given to students who participate in community service activities and have employment experience in independent, nuclear, hospital or community pharmacy.

Douglas and Judith Catalano Pharmacy Endowed Scholarship
Established by Overseer Judith Catalano and her husband, Douglas, a scholarship is awarded to a P-3 through P-6 student who demonstrates financial need and has a GPA of 3.0 or higher and a course load of at least 12 credits a semester.

Louis V. Clemente `24 Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Louis and Virginia Clemente Foundation, scholarships are awarded each year to students in years P-3 through P-6. Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate motivation to achieve educational and professional goals and seek opportunities to further their progress. Financial need and character are also criteria for the award.

Anne Colin `33 Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Florida Chapter of the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy Alumni Association, and named in honor of Anne Colin `33, who unselfishly devoted herself to the betterment of the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, a scholarship is given to a student in years P-3 through P-6, based on academic achievement and financial need.

David Colin ’33 Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Florida Chapter of the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy Alumni Association, and named in honor of David Colin `33, who unselfishly devoted himself to the betterment of the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, a scholarship is given to a student in year P-3, based on academic achievement and financial need.

Philip E. Davis Achievement Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Florida Chapter of the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy Alumni Association, and named in honor of Philip E. Davis `33, who unselfishly devoted himself to the betterment of the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, a scholarship is given to a student in year P-4 who has displayed outstanding qualities of leadership, success in extracurricular activities and excellence in scholarship with an average of “B” or higher.

Detura Family Endowed Scholarship
Established by James Detura `79, a scholarship will be awarded to a P-5 or P-6 student on the basis of financial need and academic promise. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated an interest in community pharmacy.

The Lillian Dube Family/Newcombe Foundation Endowed Scholarship
Established by Peter Dube in conjunction with the Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation, this scholarship provides financial assistance to a pharmacy, nursing or health profession student enrolled in the Achievement Studies Program. In the event there is no student who fulfills the criteria, this scholarship may be awarded to any student in the Achievement Studies Program.

Faculty and Staff Endowed Scholarship
Established in 2005, and funded by faculty and staff of the University, this scholarship is awarded to a student in years P-3 or P-4 on the basis of academic excellence and financial need.

Irwin C. Feder `49 Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Florida Chapter of the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy Alumni Association, and named in honor of Irwin C. Feder `49, who unselfishly devoted himself to the betterment of the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, a scholarship is given to a student in years P-3 through P-6, based on academic achievement and financial need.

Fuji Film/Drug Emporium Endowed Scholarship
Established by Fuji Photo Film USA, Inc. through the efforts of Robert Cartwright, vice president, these scholarships are awarded to students in years P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic promise and financial need.

Gabelli Endowed Scholarship
Established by Mario Gabelli, and supplemented by GAMCO Investors, this scholarship is awarded to a student in years P-3 or P-4 on the basis of academic excellence and financial need.

Ronald Del Gaudio `79, Kings Pharmacy Endowed Scholarship
Established by Ronald Del Gaudio `79, a scholarship is awarded to a student in P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.

Leonard A. Genovese Endowed Scholarship
Established in honor of Leonard A. Genovese, former chairman and president of Genovese Drug Stores, Inc., these scholarships are awarded to students in years P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic promise and financial need.

Irwin and Lenore Gerson Endowed Scholarship
Established by Irwin and Lenore Gerson, a scholarship is awarded to a student in years P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic promise and financial need.

Win Gerson Marketing and Communications Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Healthcare Communications and Marketing Association in honor of former Trustee and Overseer Emeritus Win Gerson—a long-time advisor to the Association. The Scholarship is awarded to a pharmacy student who maintains a GPA of 3.0 or higher, demonstrates financial need and expresses an interest in pharmaceutical marketing and advertising.

Jerry Ginsberg `52 Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established by friends and family of Jerry Ginsberg `52, and augmented by his son Ian `85, scholarships will be awarded to students who demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for the profession of pharmacy, as evidenced by extracurricular activities and practical work experiences. Jerry Ginsberg served as a member of the College’s Council of Overseers for twenty years and was an advocate for students.

Michael Gleit `74 Endowed Scholarship
Established by Sophia and Michael Gleit `74, a scholarship is awarded to a student in P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic promise and financial need, and who is committed to the community and a career in independent pharmacy.

Frederic and Linda Greenberg Endowed Scholarship
Established by Linda and Fred `61 Greenberg, a scholarship is awarded to a student in the professional program on the basis of academic excellence and financial need.

Dean Stephen M. Gross Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Florida Chapter of the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy Alumni Association, and named in honor of Stephen Gross, who unselfishly devoted himself to the betterment of the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, this scholarship is given to a student in years P-3 through P-6, based on academic achievement and financial need.

Stephen M. Gross Endowed Scholarship
Established through the generosity of Marie Schwartz, president of the Arnold & Marie Schwartz Fund for Education and Health Research, these scholarships are awarded in honor of Stephen M. Gross who has served the University for over 30 years and served as dean of the College for more than two decades. Scholarships are given to students in years P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.

Gypsy Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established by Jerome S. Factor `60, in memory of his golden retriever, Gypsy, a scholarship will be awarded to a pharmacy student in years P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic promise and financial need.

Robert W. Hannan Endowed Scholarships
Established in honor of Robert W. Hannan, former vice chairman of Eckerd Corporation, two scholarships are awarded to students in years P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic promise and financial need.

The Malvina, Leo and Stephen Jochsberger Endowed Scholarship
Established by Theodore Jochsberger `77, a scholarship is awarded to a pharmacy student based on financial need and scholastic aptitude.

Philip `22 and Lillian Kamenkowitz Endowed Scholarship
Established by Philip Kamenkowitz `22, a number of scholarships are awarded to beginning pharmacy students on the basis of financial need and academic promise. Awards can be continued through the course of study if good academic standing is maintained.

Daniel Kantor `54 Leadership Endowed Scholarship
Established by his daughter, Heidi, this scholarship will be awarded to a class leader, who, like her dad, demonstrates an interest in student government. Daniel Kantor served as president for his freshman, sophomore and junior years and president of the student council in his senior year.

Alan Katz `58 Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Florida Chapter of the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy Alumni Association, and named in honor of Alan Katz `58, who unselfishly devoted himself to the betterment of the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, this scholarship is given to a P-4 student , based on scholarship, achievement and financial need.

Eugene Kearns ’52 Endowed Scholarship
Established by Mary Kearns in memory of her husband, Eugene Kearns `52, a scholarship will be awarded to a P-1 though P-6 student on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.

Moon `77 & Chang Kim Endowed Scholarship
Established by Moon Kyung Kim `77, a scholarship is awarded to a student in years P-3 through P-6 solely on the basis of financial need.

Lachman Family Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. Leon Lachman, chairman of the College’s Council of Overseers, a scholarship will be awarded to a student in year P-5 or P-6, on the basis of financial need.

Franc H. Largeman Endowed Scholarship
Established by Lila Largeman Gable ’50 in memory of her parents, a scholarship is awarded to a student, P-3 through P-6, on the basis of financial need and academic ability. Franc H. Largeman, Ph.G., was a graduate of Columbia University College of Pharmacy, Class of 1919.

Ashraf Latif & Amjad Abu-Kwaik Sheefa Pharmacy Endowed Scholarship
Established by Ashraf Latif `91, a scholarship is awarded to a pharmacy student in the professional program on the basis of academic achievement. Preference will be given to those with an interest in community pharmacy.

Constantine Lopilato Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Florida Chapter of the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy Alumni Association, and named in honor of Constantine Lopilato, who unselfishly devoted himself to the betterment of the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, a scholarship is given to a student in year P-5, based on academic achievement and financial need.

Eugene and Beverly Luntey Endowed Scholarship
Established in 1998, when Eugene Luntey retired as chair of the University’s Board of Trustees, a scholarship is awarded to a P-3 or P-4 student who has high financial need and high academic standing.

Nellie Jane Macdonald Endowed Scholarship
Established by Marie Schwartz in memory of her beloved sister, Nellie Jane Macdonald, scholarships will be awarded to pharmacy students in years P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.

Frank J. Maddalena `74 Endowed Scholarship
Established by Frank Maddalena, `74 (M.S.), H`97, a scholarship is awarded to a pharmacy student in year P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic promise and financial need.

Harvey `67 and Renee Maldow Endowed Scholarship
Established by Overseer Harvey Maldow `67, `72 M.S.), a scholarship is awarded to a P-5 or P-6 student on the basis of academic achievement, financial need and leadership in pharmacy organizations.

Howard Maltz `53 Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Florida Chapter of the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy Alumni Association and named in honor of Howard Maltz `53, who unselfishly devoted himself to the betterment of the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, a scholarship is given to a student in years P-3 through P-6, based on academic achievement and financial need.

Professors Nouri Mary and Theodore Jochsberger Endowed Scholarship
Established by Fred Wein `76 and Jacob Jamron `97, a scholarship is awarded to a P-3 through P-6 student based on academic promise and financial need.

Medco Health Solutions Endowed Scholarship
Established by Medco Health Solutions through the efforts of Overseer Emeritus Frederick D. Klein `52, a scholarship is awarded to a student in years P-3 through P-6 who excels academically and needs financial assistance.

Michael Melnicke Endowed Scholarship
Established by Overseer Michael Melnicke, a scholarship is awarded to a student who is majoring in pharmacy or a related health field.

Vera Morella Memorial and Pat and Daphne Daddino Endowed Scholarship
Established by Patrick Daddino `70 in memory of his mother, a scholarship is awarded to a P-3 through P-6 student on the basis of academic achievement and financial need

Anne and Philip Nemser Class of 1927 Endowed Scholarship
Established by Leila and Edgar `52 Schwartz in memory of Leila’s parents, a scholarship is awarded to a pharmacy student in years P-3 through P-6 on the basis of superior academic achievement and financial need.

Henry A. Panasci, Jr. Endowed Scholarships
Established by the Henry A. and Faye Panasci Fund, a scholarship is awarded in honor of Henry A. Panasci Jr., chairman of the board of Faye’s Drug Company, Inc.

Marvin Persky `70 Endowed Scholarship
Established by the family of Marvin Persky `70, a scholarship is awarded to a student (P-3 through P-6), who is an immigrant or the child of immigrants to this country and has displayed outstanding qualities of character, including the gift of humor, an appreciation of learning and excellence in scholarship with an average of “B” or higher.

Pharmacy Alumni Executive Committee Endowed Scholarship
Established through contributions made by members of the Alumni Association Executive Board, and matched by Steven Strauss `55, `65 (M.S.), a scholarship is awarded to a student in years P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic promise and financial need.

Irving Rubin `36 Endowed Scholarship
Established by friends and colleagues of Irving Rubin `36, this fund provides undergraduate and graduate scholarship support for outstanding students who demonstrate an interest in community pharmacy, wholesale distribution, pharmaceutical marketing, management, sales or journalism.

Thelma Lee Ruffin Endowed Scholarship
Established by Overseer Craig Ruffin `85, co-founder and past president of the College’s Chapter of the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA), and past SNPhA national president, a scholarship will be awarded to a minority student who exhibits leadership potential through active service and who demonstrates financial need. The scholarship has been named to honor his mother, a single parent of two who, although she never realized a college education for herself, devoted her life to instilling in her children the importance of academics. Thelma Ruffin made sure her children knew the “Impossible Dream” was not so impossible and this scholarship affirms that legacy.

Mohammed Saleh `77 Endowed Scholarship
Established by Mohammed Saleh `77, a scholarship is awarded to a student in years P-3 through P-6. The award will be made to a student of Asian origin (preferably from Bangladesh) on the basis of academic promise and financial need.

Schein Pharmaceutical, Inc. Endowed Scholarship
Established by Schein Pharmaceutical, Inc., through the efforts of Martin Sperber, and supplemented by Michael Fedida `72, both members of the College’s Council of Overseers, a scholarship is awarded to a student in years P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.

Liesel B. Schumacher Endowed Scholarship
Established by Sophia Lai `05 and Brian Yeung `04 in honor of Liesel B. Schumacher B`97, B`08 (M.A.)—the assistant dean for administration and the valedictorian of the LIU Class of 1997—for her tireless and exemplary service on behalf of students at the College. A scholarship is awarded to a student in years P-4 through P-6 who has displayed outstanding qualities of leadership, success in extracurricular activities and excellence in scholarship with an average of 3.5 or higher.

Marie Schwartz Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Florida Chapter of the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy Alumni Association, and named in honor of Marie Schwartz, who unselfishly devoted herself to the betterment of the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, a scholarship is given to a student in years P-3 through P-6, based on academic achievement and financial need.

Michael Saul Schwartz `82 Endowed Scholarship
Established by Leila and Edgar `52 Schwartz in memory of their son, a scholarship is awarded to a pharmacy student based on intellectual promise and financial need.

Sperber Family Endowed Scholarship
Established by the generosity of Martin Sperber, a member of the College’s Council of Overseers, and a trustee of Long Island University, scholarships will be awarded to students in year P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic achievement and financial need.

Howard Sternheim `54 Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of Howard Sternheim `54, by friends and family, scholarships are awarded to students in years P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic promise and financial need. Mr. Sternheim was vice chair of the College’s Council of Overseers at the time of his death, and was awarded the College’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 1998.

Sylvia Tanenbaum Endowed Scholarship
Established by Harvey Tanenbaum `65, a member of the College of Pharmacy’s Council of Overseers, a scholarship is awarded to a student in years P-3 through P-6 on the basis of financial need and academic ability.

Ullman Family Partnership Endowed Scholarship
Established by Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, Richard Ullman `67, who is a member of the College’s Council of Overseers, and a trustee of Long Island University, and his son Kenneth Ullman `99, two scholarships are awarded to pharmacy students in years P-3 through P-6 on the basis of academic promise and financial need.

Seymour Weinstein `54 Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established by the friends of Seymour Weinstein `54, an annual scholarship is awarded to a student on the basis of financial need and academic achievement. The award will be given to a student who has a demonstrated interest in industrial pharmacy and who best exhibits the qualities of creativity and independent thought as exemplified by Seymour Weinstein.

Arthur G. Zupko Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Florida Chapter of the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy Alumni Association, and named in honor of Arthur G. Zupko H`79, who unselfishly devoted himself to the betterment of the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, a scholarship is given to a student in years P-4, P-5 or P-6, with a high scholastic standing and an interest in research.
