Welcome to The Office of Student Development and Retention! Here at Long Island University, we have designed a unique department that will support you throughout your years at the Brooklyn Campus. The Office of Student Development and Retention offers comprehensive support from your first year of college all the way through graduation. Student Development Counselors meet one on one with you to provide assistance with major selection, class scheduling, financial literacy, academic foundations, career development, internship placement and student mentoring. Additionally, First Year Programs will prepare you for the rigors of college through our orientation sequence, which incorporates New Student Orientation, Welcome Week and Orientation Seminar I class.
Recognizing the importance of earning while learning, the Office of Student Development and Retention will work diligently to support you as you seek out and apply for scholarships and jobs. The Scholarship Assistance Program will provide you with guided assistance in your search for private scholarships. Our Career Services staff develops and maintains relationships with businesses, government agencies, and non-profit organizations that provide internship opportunities for our current students and full-time employment for future graduates.
Our dedication to the Brooklyn Campus includes working side by side with our student population. Over fifty undergraduate students represent The Office of Student Development and Retention each year as Student Mentors, America Reads volunteers, Jump Start Corps Members and Orientation Leaders. Additionally, our office is staffed with several student workers and graduate assistants, and hundreds of students are placed in various positions around campus each semester through the College Work-Study Program.
I invite you to explore our website for more information regarding the many ways in which we support student success!
