Museums
Museum
of Anthropology at The University of British Columbia
The museum's collection of Northwest Coast art is especially strong.
Although the online resources are not numerous, there are a number
of interesting projects being developed by museum staff including
Indian Cowgirls, a preview of a multimedia CD-ROM on Northwest
Coast Totem Poles, and sourcebooks. Pam Brown, Curator of Ethnology
and Media, describes sourcebooks as consisting of " text
taken from oral testimony, library research, contemporary and
archival photographs, illustrations and maps to 'tell a story.'
Through the use of a minimum amount of explanatory text, they
profile people, organizations, events or processes in the form
of an exhibit-book." Sourcebooks are a way for members of
First Nations to tell their own stories utilizing musuem resources.
