Try it out and tell us what you think. See contact info below. Videos on Haiti in the Media Center Learn more about the site of the tragic, recent earthquake. French Filmmaker Eric Rohmer (1920-2010) in the Media Center Rohmer was an influential part of the French New Wave, and his films are quiet, intelligent, humorous ruminations on romance, love, and lust. And oh, so French. Issue 51? Area 51! So, with the self-created hubbub and backslapping over last month's fiftieth issue, I realized that this month is issue 51, which of course automatically makes me think of the legendary Area 51, with all the aliens, spacecrafts and conspiracies which that name suggests. We'll start with some X-Files, and don't forget the Close Encounters. 50's sci fi paranoia is another good touchstone for this kind of thing. "There's
always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser, or a Corillian Death Ray, or an
intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable
little planet, and the only way these people can get on with their happy
lives is that they do... not... know about it!" |
