The Long Island University Brooklyn Campus Library Media Center Newsletter

We love movies, among other things.

September 2008, issue 37

Welcome to the New School Year!

"Hel-lo, everybody, so glad to see you...."  Sorry, that's one of the songs they sing at my son's day care.  But the sentiment rings true at any age.  September is fun around here, flush as it is with new faces and new energy.  So let us say welcome back, and we hope to see you soon.

You'll find our collection is growing every day, and we are making solid progress in converting our most popular titles from VHS to DVD.  "But Mr. Happy Media Assistant Man," you ask, "how can we find out what videos you have?"  Glad you asked, chum.

1. Go to LIUCAT
2. Click on "Advanced search"
3. In the first search box, "General keyword," enter the word "videorecording".
4. Enter an author's or director's name, a title keyword, or a subject keyword in the appropriate search box and click "Go;" the search will begin.

Questions?  We are happy to assist you in searching the collection for your needs.

The Critics Rave!!

Just listen to what they're saying* about us:

"Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries."

"You're not too smart, are you? I like that in a man."

"We find the defendants incredibly guilty."

"I'll live to see you, all of you, hanging from the highest yardarm in the British fleet!"

"I'm your number one fan."

"You're wonderful--in a loathsome sort of way."

"Well, nobody's perfect."

"Shut up and deal."

"What we've got here is a failure to communicate."

"You're gonna need a bigger boat."

"The arrangement of your features is not entirely repulsive to me."

"I'm not sure I agree with you a hundred percent on your policework there, Lou."

"Clear?  Huh!  Why, a four-year-old child could understand this report.  Run out and find me a four-year-old child.  I can't make head or tail of it."

*How many of these movie quotes do you know (without Google)?

Stop by and find out how you did, and we'll give you an extra day on your loan!  What a deal!
