Policies: Circulation, Reference, Reserve , Lost/Damaged Items
Circulation
video policy and procedure
Students:
for 3 days
Staff: for 3 days
Faculty/Administration: for 7 days
¨
Videos that are late will be subject to fines of $3.00
a day.
¨
Fines begin to accumulate on the 4th day, and will
continue to accumulate until the item is returned. This includes
the day that the item is returned.
¨
Borrowers with fines of $10.00 or more on their cards
will not be permitted to borrow items from the library, will not
have access to remote databases and may find that their registration
and grade reporting is blocked.
¨
If
a video is lost or is returned damaged, the borrower will be charged
for the lost/damaged item. Any fines associated with the item will
be added to the cost of the item. For further details, see Lost
and Damaged sections
¨
Faculty
who wish to use a circulating video in a class are encouraged to
notify the Media Center staff so that the tape may be placed on
Reserve, thus ensuring that the material is always available to
students.
¨
Items that are placed on Reserve will revert to Circulation
at the end of each semester. Items that are to be kept on ‘permanent
reserve’ will become Reference materials.
Reference/Reserve
Collection Borrowing Procedure
¨
In
order to borrow an item that is part of the Reserve /Reference collection
all borrowers must present LIU ID.
¨
Neither
student nor staff are not permitted to take items from the Reserve/Reference
collection out of the library. Their ID cards will be kept behind
the desk while theyare using the items in the Media Center.
¨ Faculty
wishing to take Reserve/Reference tapes out of the library must:
A)
fill out a request slip.
B) present
a faculty ID
C)
complete the faculty reserve form
¨
Items taken out of the library must be returned within
7 days.
¨
Items that are lost must be replaced.
Proxy Borrowers
In
exceptional circumstances, faculty may send over a proxy
borrower, with:
¨ a
signed memo from the faculty member:
A)
identifying the individual bearing the memo
B) permitting
that individual to borrow items in their name
¨
the
faculty member’s LIU faculty ID card. No alternate form of ID will
be accepted in this situation.
The
person acting as a proxy borrower must also:
¨
present
their own LIU ID,
¨
fill
out the request slip
¨
complete the faculty
reserve form if necessary
Borrowing
Policy & Proceedure for Laser and Digital Video Discs (DVD),
CDs, CD-ROMs, Audio Cassettes, Kits, and Slides
¨
These
items are part of the Reference /Reserve Collection
¨
Students
may use Laser Disks and Digital Video Discs (DVDs) CDs, CD-ROMs,
Audio Cassettes, Kits, and Slides only in the library.
¨
Faculty
may borrow Laser and Digital Video Discs (DVDs), CDs, CD-ROMs,
Audio Cassettes, Kits, and Slides in the same way, and subject to
the same conditions as Reference /Reserve Videos.
Lost and Damaged
Item
Lost Item
¨
Items that are borrowed on a 3-day loan will be considered
lost after 30 days.
¨
Items that are borrowed on a 7-day loan will be considered
lost after 60 days.
¨
The value of the lost items will be noted on the borrower's
Library record.
¨
If the value of the lost item is greater than $10.00,
the patron’s borrowing, ILL and Remote Privileges will be suspended
until the issue is resolved.
¨
Patrons who have lost an item may replace it at their
own cost, or pay the library the cost of the item.
Damaged
Items
¨
An item which is returned to the Library in a condition
that prohibits using it for its intended purpose is considered to
be damaged.
¨
Replacement/Repair costs for items that are returned
damaged will be noted on the borrower's Library record.
¨
If the valueof the damaged item is greater than $10.00,
the patron’s borrowing, ILL and Remote Privileges will be suspended
until the issue is resolved.
¨
Patrons who have damaged an item may chose to replace
it at their own cost, or pay the library the cost of the item.
All
discussions/disputes/ negotiations regarding these issues should
be referred to the Media Librarian.
