The East New York Extension Program is located in IS 292. The address is:
303 Vermont Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, 11207.

Approximately 50 students are registered to obtain an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts.

THE LIU COMPUTER NETWORK The LIU computers at the East New York Extension Site provide Internet access; however, at time of posting they are not connected to the LIU network and, therefore, do not provide full, on-campus access to journal databases. In order to do so, you need to click on off-campus databases and input your LIU library barcode. 

The Brooklyn Campus Library has a separate web site highlighting its resources and services, which can be reached by clicking Library Home button on the left side of the screen. You can search the computerized catalog by clicking “LIUCAT” located at the top of the screen (LIUCAT contains catalog information for all LIU campuses.)

LIBRARY INSTRUCTION

Classes in how to use the Library’s resources, including the databases, are held at the Library each semester.  Arrangements may also be made for library instruction at the East New York Extension Site.  These may be held as part of an Orientation Seminar or as part of another course.  Faculty members may arrange with the Library’s reference staff for library instruction customized for a particular course or assignment.

Reference Librarians are available at the Brooklyn Campus Library whenever the Library is open.  To get help during these hours, call the Reference Desk at (718) 780-4513.

BORROWING MATERIALS

All members of the LIU community may borrow material from the circulating collections.  In order to do so, however, a special Library barcode must be attached to the LIU ID card.  Registration forms for this purpose must be submitted to the Circulation Desk on the 5^th floor of the Library. Forms may be obtained by calling the librarian responsible for Extension Sites, Paul Tremblay, at 718 246-6382.

USING OTHER LIBRARIES

It is recommended that students obtain a public library card and use public libraries when they can’t travel to the Brooklyn Campus. Branches of the Brooklyn Public Library close to the East New York site are located at:

The advantage of a Brooklyn Public Library card is that it permits Internet access from any computer to a number of full-text databases and reference works, including an online encyclopedia.

The New York Public Library is a separate library system, but anyone who lives, works, pays taxes, or goes to school in New York State may join.  It too permits (with a NYPL card) Internet access from any computer to a number of full-text databases and reference works, including an encyclopedia. For those living in Queens, take advantage of the Queens Borough Public Library system with its 62 branches.

The Brooklyn Campus Library is also a member of Academic Libraries of Brooklyn (ALB), which includes Brooklyn College, Medgar Evers College, New York City College of Technology, Polytechnic University, Pratt Institute, St. Francis College, and St. Joseph’s College.  A special ALB card, which allows semester-long use of any of these libraries, can be obtained from the 5^th floor Circulation Desk.

LIU’s membership in the library consortium known as METRO allows students to use materials in another library if that library is the only source for those materials.  METRO cards can be obtained from the Reference Department (3^rd floor), after a librarian has made arrangements for your visit.
