Vision
Statement
As
a center of intellectual life for the LIU Brooklyn Campus, the library
offers students and faculty a welcoming environment for scholarship,
utilizing advances in information technology, skilled staff, collections,
and services appropriate to the University's programs.
Mission
Statement
In
keeping with the vision expressed above, the mission of the library
is:
1. To provide
access to collections and services in support of the curricula and
programs of Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus.
2. To ensure
the information literacy of the campus community and to prepare
its students for life-long learning by teaching essential research
skills.
3. To remain
aware of changing informational needs through ongoing dialogs with
all of the University's constituencies in order to develop appropriate
collections and services.
4. To search
out, evaluate, and adopt advances in information science appropriate
to a technologically sophisticated academic library.
5. To recognize
and respect the cultural, ethnic, and gender diversity of the academic
community and the wider community of which it is a part.
6. To develop
a staff dedicated to the highest ideals of service and cooperation.
7. To maintain
a welcoming environment which is safe, attractive, and reliable
for library users and staff.
