Bridge Program

Since 1981, the Bridge Programs have provided New York City high school students a challenging academic experience at the college level. These programs, sponsored by the University Honors Program, offer a variety of experiences for students with a broad range of academic abilities.

We are particularly interested in helping students understand that in college they take on greater responsibility for making their own academic decisions. All of our campus-based programs involve counseling about making responsible academic choices. In most of our programs there is a strong emphasis on learning in groups to develop a sense of participation and active involvement, which are crucial tools for a successful education.

The Brooklyn Campus offers four ways to gain a college experience, each one unique in structure and approach. The Senior Bridge Program gives high-achieving seniors the opportunity to take introductory level undergraduate courses on campus. The College Project introduces outstanding high school juniors to the nature of college academic life through weekly spring semester seminars in different disciplines. Each summer the BASIS Program offers students between their junior and senior years an interdisciplinary college course to sharpen thinking and communications skills, as well as to increase motivation for attending college. The Health Professions Project offers students an opportunity to explore the allied heath professions in a six-week interactive seminar series.
