The Department offers programs of study which lead to Bachelor of Science degrees in either Chemistry or Biochemistry.  The department is also home to a vibrant graduate program which offers a Master of Science degree in Chemistry.  All programs are certified by the American Chemical Society, the premier professional soceity for the chemical sciences.
The Department prides itself on offering a solid, rigorous course of study at all levels.  The students also benefit from the care and concern of the faculty, who develop strong, personal relationships with each student.  These relationships are fostered by small class sizes, which allow for one-on-one interactions.  Class sizes are never larger than 24 students in a class, allowing for one-on-one interactions between students and teachers.

Small class sizes means that the Professor will get to know YOU !

First class research performed along side of an expert faculty member provides students with a unique opportunity to further advance their education and their careers!
Student education is strengthend further through participation in research.  On both the graduate and undergraduate level, students perform high quality research under the direct guidance of a faculty member who is an expert in his or her field.  This unique research environment provides the student with valuable experience which is highly prized in industry.  Most students graduate with at least one research publication or presentation to their credit.

Your education is supported and enhanced by direct access to nearly $2.5 million in modern instrumentation.  All of the departmetns instruments are less than ten years old, with most being aquired within the last five years.  These resources are fully accessable to all students in both the classroom and the research laboratory.
Unlimited access to the most advanced instrumentation provides LIU graduates with a real advantage!
There are many opportunities for finacial support.  In addition to University scholarships and awards,  undergraduate students may take advantage of the Cooperative Education Program at the Brooklyn Campus and earn money in co-op placements in the metropolitan New York area while pursuing the BS degree. Graduate students may obtain Teaching Assistanships that pay tuition and provide an additional monetary stipend.  The Department also has a limited number of research  fellowships that pay full tuition and provide a monetary stipend.
