THE
VISUAL ARTS STUDIOS
The art studios are well equipped with two large ceramic studios
for handbuilding and wheelwork. In addition to fourteen electric
wheels, we have three large electric kilns and an outdoor raku kiln.
Our print studio is equipped with a 33” x 60” Takach
etching press and a 12”x 19” Brand Press. A wide
range of sculpture equipment and tools are available for classes
in wood, plaster, clay, metal and cast sculpture. A separate
plaster room connects with the sculpture studio. A light filled
painting studio is well equipped with easels, drawing boards and
space for live models and still life set ups. The Brooklyn
Campus library has the largest university artist book collection,
which is an excellent resource for classes in book making, printmaking,
drawing, and art education. The studios are available to art
majors twenty-four hours a day.
A new Macintosh computer lab (in addition to the
Media Arts computer labs) is located next to the sculpture studio.
It is equipped with fifteen G5s and Adobe, Quark and Macromedia
suites of software. Printers include Epson 7500 for large-scale
format digital printing, Epson scanners, Xante Filmmaker, and a
Polaroid film recorder. We work in conjunction with the Media
Arts Department where photography labs are housed.
