ABOUT US

Welcome to the LIU Brooklyn Visual Arts Department. LIU Brooklyn Visual Arts is located in Downtown Brooklyn, minutes from major museums and galleries in New York City. Our sky lighted studios are atop the Humanities building, enjoying panoramic views of Manhattan and Brooklyn with two large terraces used for studio space in good weather. Our Visual Arts majors enjoy small classes with personal guidance from the art faculty who are professional artists and art historians. Courses are offered in Drawing, Painting, Ceramics, Sculpture, Printmaking (traditional and digital), Calligraphy, Artist Books, Color Theory, Art History, Art Education and Photography. In addition, classes in glass can be taken at nearby Urban Glass (www.urbanglass.org).

Three degrees are offered in the Visual Arts Department:

The BFA in Studio Art

The BFA in Art Education

The BA in Visual Arts

While each art student is assigned a faculty mentor for guidance through the program; group critiques occur each spring so that the faculty becomes acquainted with all art majors. Visual Arts majors have had the opportunity to complete internships at the Brooklyn Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and other galleries and arts organizations.
