Welcome to the Dance Department!
I am delighted that you have decided to investigate the LIU-Brooklyn Campus Dance Department. Located just ten minutes from downtown Manhattan, we currently offer two degrees in Dance - the Bachelor of Science and the Bachelor of Fine Arts - taught by the finest dance professionals in New York City. Detailed information about the programs are available here; however, if you cannot find answers to a specific question or want to learn more, do not hesitate to contact the Dance Department at (718) 488-1051 or by email at dhash@liu.edu.
We look forward to the upcoming year and all it has to offer. Our most exciting addition is Assistant Professor of Dance Rodger Belman, a former member of Laura Dean Dancers & Musicians. Professor Belman is a major reconstructor of Laura Dean's work and is currently setting Dean's Sky Light (1982) on the junior and senior BFA dance majors who will perform the work with live music accompaniment in the Winter and Spring Dance Concerts. Students also have the opportunity this academic year to work with professional choreographers such as Kate Weare and Alexandra Beller in rehearsals as well as in the classroom.
In addition, we congratulate our recent alumni, Kate McCusker on her choreographic work Untitled, which was chosen to be a part of the Second Annual Dance Gallery Festival at the Ailey Citigroup Theater. It was great to see our students perform in this Fall side by side with current professionals in the New York dance community.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) program in dance offers rigorous, conservatory-style training for those interested in pursuing careers as professional dancers in a liberal arts and science college setting. The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) program in dance is designed to meet the artistic and academic needs of students interested in pursuing professional dance careers, as well as those who want to work in complementary fields as dance instructors, movement therapists, art administrators or other related disciplines. No matter your dance degree program the Long Island University-Brooklyn Campus Dance Department is dedicated to cultivating disciplined, creative, intelligent artists. Are you up for the challenge?
Please enjoy searching our web site, and once again, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.
Looking forward to seeing you at one of our auditions!
Sincerely,
Associate Professor Dana Hash-Campbell
