Rev. Charles P. Keeney
Father Charles Keeney's Biography:

Charles Keeney was born in Methodist Hospital to Edward and Julia Keeney on March 14, 1952. He was the first of their seven children.

He attended Sacred Heart parochial grammar school in Glendale from 1957-1965. He graduated winning the mathematics award and a scholarship to Cathedral Prep High School . There he completed his secondary high school education in 1969 and advanced to Cathedral College where he played varsity basketball and received a B.A. in Philosophy in1973. The next level of education was at the Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington , Long Island . He received his M.Div. degree on January 9, 1977.

Bishop Mugavero stationed Charles Keeney in the parish of St. Jerome 's in Flatbush Brooklyn to serve as a deacon for the period of one year in preparation for his ordination as a priest. On March 17, 1978 Bishop Mugavero ordained Father Charles P.Keeney (Father Charlie) as a Catholic priest in the church of St. Jerome in Brooklyn .

For eleven years Father Charlie served as associate pastor in parishes in Jamaica , Bushwick, and Elmhurst . In June of 1989 Father Charlie became the first of his classmates to be appointed as a pastor of a parish. He served one term as pastor in St. Margaret Mary's Church in Long Island City and another term as pastor in St. Leo's Parish in Astoria .

In 1998 his ministry took a change of direction. Father Charlie volunteered to be a part time chaplain for NYC Department of Corrections at Rikers Island . In 1999 Bishop Daily appointed Father Charlie as full time chaplain at St. John's Prep High School in Astoria .

After six successful years working with high school students, as well as with the staff and faculty, Bishop Dimarzio appointed Father Charlie to minister as chaplain to college age students at Long Island University in Brooklyn . This assignment begins in 2005 for a period of five years.
