Great American Wheelchair Race and Disability Awareness Day
This event, held each spring, is a reality-based educational experience designed to increase awareness and sensitivity toward people with disabilities. Individuals who don’t usually use wheelchairs ride inone around a prescribed campus course, racing to various “learning stations” where they acquire a new skill – writing their name in Braille– and ultimately to the finish line. Prizes are awarded to those who complete the course in the quickest time. Members of the community, particularly school-age youngsters, may participate.
